Porcelain Crowns Keep Smiles Strong and Beautiful
Teeth are composed of the strongest substance in the human body, but still, with the intense conditions they endure every day, they can crack or become otherwise structurally damaged. Unlike skin, teeth cannot repair themselves naturally. Left untreated, a damaged tooth can cause pain or break off completely, which creates a more significant problem. The wise solution is to visit Dr. Morgan immediately if you have a toothache, and always get the repairs that your dentist suggests.
To restore a structurally damaged tooth, Dr. Morgan may recommend a crown, inlay, or onlay. A crown covers the part of a tooth that extends above the gum line – the part you can see. Inlays and onlays fit into a tooth, much like a filling. These three restorations are created from solid material like porcelain, metal, or porcelain fused to metal. To keep your smile beautiful, Dr. Morgan will almost always place white restorations in front (anterior) teeth. Back teeth may require metal crowns, inlays, or onlays to withstand the biting pressure your mouth exerts.
Because these restorations are made by dental technicians in a laboratory, you will need to schedule two visits with Dr. Morgan. At the first appointment, Dr. Morgan will prepare your tooth for the crown, inlay, or onlay, then take an impression and place a temporary for you to wear until your second appointment. Our dental lab will use your impression as a roadmap to creating a well-fitted restoration. Rest assured, your crowns, inlays, and onlays will be created in the country from safe dental materials. If the restoration is porcelain, our lab will use high-quality ceramic that will blend with your existing teeth.
At your follow-up appointment, Dr. Morgan will remove your temporary and permanently affix the custom-made crown, inlay, or onlay to your damaged tooth. He will sculpt the restoration to fit well with your bite and polish it to an attractive shine before you leave our office.
